“He was my best friend…” I say more to myself than her.
“Yeah, so was I but you seem to have forgotten that part of your life.”

The bet was simple.
You draw a name from the hat.
That’s the girl you have to seduce.
The girl you have to make fall head over heels in love with you.

It wasn’t hard for me to do, in fact it was something I did all the time. I was known for breaking hearts. Sex was just that, sex. And it didn’t take me very long to get a woman on her back.

And then I drew her name: Jules Peterson.

My former best friend. My first kiss. My first love. She shattered my heart into a million pieces three years ago. She left me right when I needed her most.

And as fate who have it, she had entered my life once again, at almost the perfect time.

She was a transfer, fresh meat, and she had just put a target on her back. It was my turn to make her pay. It was my turn to break her heart.

Holding onto that hate, that anger, that f*cking heartbreak. It does something to you. It breaks you, and it broke me, it tainted me, just like I would do to Jules.

She used to be my everything, but now she was nothing but The Bet.

**This is book one in the North Woods University Series. It can be read as a complete standalone and contains NO cliffhanger, NO cheating, and a HEA. Please be advised this series contains material not suitable for all readers. Dubious content is included in this book. This is NOT a YA series.**

The moment I came across this story I jumped at the opportunity to get my hands on it because it sounded like my kind of read. Unfortunately, well I did enjoy parts of this story, I didn’t necessarily love it as much as I thought I was going to. J.L. Beck and C. Hallman’s writing style was unique and I couldn’t tell when one author’s writing ended and the other author’s began because the change in tone was unrecognizable.

The story flowed well and I enjoyed certain parts of the story, but there were also parts that I was kind of frustrated with. Remington was a little immature for my liking and a total d*ck in the beginning, but he did mature over the course of the story. On the other hand, I instantly loved Jules and my heart broke for her because of the pain she had to endure when she lost her brother and father. Oh and let’s not forget how Remmy treated her when she saw him for the first time in years. I never hated a main character in the beginning as much as I hated him, but he slowly worked his way into my good graces.

Although this wasn’t my favorite read I definitely liked how this story ended and I cannot wait for the next book in this standalone series because I am super interested in Vance’s story!

“Such a pretty little pussy. I never would’ve expected you to be so responsive to my hate, I guess we are both full of surprises.” (1)
